As summer begins to die out, and this ugly depressing weather sets in, many trends will begin to die out with it.
Okay so side note, I am not a fall person. I'm just not. I could care less about Pumpkin Spice Lattes, leaves changing colors, and pumpkins on porches. I like summer, but being a Washingtonian, I have learned how to graciously accept the season of fall when its time comes. One thing that I can not stand though is the slow and painful transition between seasons.
One day it's clear skies and 78 degrees out, and then the next day its freezing with a down pour of rain. I pull my sweaters out and move my summer clothes to the back of my closet, just to have to switch back to something lighter because now if I wear a sweater on Tuesday like I did on Monday, I'll die from drowning in my own sweat. Once I am ready to be cozied up with my caramel apple cider, I am ready to keep it that way until December rolls around... then I switch to hot coco.
Anyways, like I was saying, the end of every season means saying goodbye to some pieces that we will miss having in our daily wardrobe, and some that we probably regret wearing in the first place...
I researched long and hard, trying to find what others were saying about what fashion trends need to die with summer 2016. Unfortunately there weren't very many (okay there weren't ANY) articles that I agreed with. Some of the stuff that was suggested to go out of style, never really was in style in the first place OR, the trend is still very much in style and it was more of the opinion from the writer. Which we don't care about your opinion, we want cold hard facts of what to wear and what not to wear. RIGHT?!
Sadly, It does not work like that, (Unless Anna Wintour says something is out of style... then it is. don't argue, just go burn it.) So since opinions are all we have, I decided to share mine, along with several other people's. I asked some of my fashion guru friends what trends they were just tired of seeing, and we came up with some pretty good ones. So lets get started...
Here are the trends that need to die with the summer...
Lace shorts... I am so over it. Like are they shorts? Is it a skirt? I have no idea until I check the crotch.
Just put the damn thing on your head. FULLY. Why would you want to look like you have an overly large forehead?
Okay, I can appreciate a good pair of gladiator sandals. I actually really like a lot of pairs I see, but to be honest, when there is a little pump added on, it just makes it look a bit trashy... I have no doubt that there are ways to make this look acceptable, but for the generalized public, lets just stray away from trying to make it work.
At this rate, there's just no point in wearing pants...
STOOOOOOOOOP. JUST STOP.
Please, asymmetrical skirts? So last season. It's all about the asymmetrical sweaters this fall.
Every time I go to a concert (cause I go to concerts like One Direction and 5S0S), I feel like I didn't get the dress code memo. Just kidding, I purposefully DON'T wear a flannel when going to a concert because I know that everyone and their mom will be wearing one.
So now that we have all of that out of the way, I just wanted to touch base on this shoot. These two outfits are like the epitome of Summer '16. The halter top, the onesie, the bandana and even the pastel colors. Pantone's color pallet for the year totally reflects what we wore. I intentionally styled our outfits to be cohesive; my bandana matches the yellow in Payton's halter top. Yet alone, both outfits still work just as well. To see more of Payton's look and both looks together, click here to go to "Styled."
Thanks for checking in and reading up! I hope my honesty about what trends need to go wasn't too brutal... and hey, if you disagree, what do I know? I'm not Anna Wintour.
Don't be fooled... we actually don't really even like dogs.
