Is it just me? Or is anyone else struggling to be original in a world where it feels like everything has already been done?
I feel like even the concepts or visions I have for shoots aren't very original sometimes. When my inspiration roots from an outfit or costume, or even from a location I happen to pass, I feel like the vision is authentic in that moment. But then I go to create a mood board (Pinterest of course, cause is there really anything else that can get the job done properly?) and while I find images that better portray my idea and vision, I also begin to feel like it has already been done by someone else out there.
Which leaves me wondering... Where does true inspiration come from? Designers find inspiration in architecture, patterns, paintings... But where did those architects and artists find their inspiration? In colors? Light? Human interactions? I ponder where it all starts from, and I wish so desperately that I could find my own root of inspiration too. Some type of inspiration that I didn't get from a movie or an image, or even a song. But a work of art that would be birthed from my own mind and soul. Is it even possible for such a thing to occur? Is being purely original attainable anymore?
I believe it is. I believe that God has given us the capability to discover inspiration within our own minds, we need only tap into it. How do you tap into it though? I think it's different for everyone. For me, I come up with my best ideas when I'm alone, driving in the car. If you've ever been in the car with me you've probably noticed I actually don't like to talk much in that setting. I'd rather just be quiet, listen to music, and look out the window. That's when my mind is at it's clearest, and that is why I believe I get my best ideas then. Because I let my mind wander and roam and dream in what I feel like is a peaceful setting.
One of the reasons why I love this white blouse from SheIn is because I feel like it's classic yet so original at the same time. It's simple yet complicated and unique. Not to mention its just really fun to wear in general. I get to style it how I want, dress it up or dress it down (which is basically what every woman wants; a universal piece) and You get to style the bow, front, side, back. I love big bows so I chose to tie mine on the side. You can find this piece by clicking here!
For this shoot, this top was the inspiration. It encouraged my photographer and I to venture somewhere new for the shoot, and I am so happy we did. In relation to what I have been saying about originality, I am going to try to set myself up to find that place of inspiration. Whether it's through a piece of clothing (just like this shoot was inspired by the blouse) or a song, or a story. I am going to strive to clear my mind and open up to new ideas and concepts that come my way.
With that being said, and my thoughts being laid out for all to read, I want to hear from YOU, creatives and readers. Where do you find inspiration? What do you do to clear your mind? Or what do you find the most inspiration in? Do you ever feel like you're stuck artistically? Please leave some comments, I would love to hear your thoughts on originality. Finally, I really do encourage any ladies to give SheIn a look, their clothes, bags, shoes, etc. are fabulous, along with great prices. And who can resist affordable fashion?
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from some of you.
